JimmyOates

James “Jimmy” Howard Oates, Sr., 79 of Stephens City, VA, died Friday, February 15, 2019 at Inova Fairfax Hospital.

Jimmy was born December 12, 1939 in Winchester, VA; the son of the late Clatice Clinton and Mattie Lucille Hefner Oates. He served his country for twenty years in the Air Force and Air Guard. He was a machinist at Crown Cork and Seal retiring in 2003. Jimmy was a member of the Moose Lodge, Eagles Club, Military Retirees Association, and Trinity Episcopal Church.

He married Carole Sharon Shafer, September 30, 1961 at the First Baptist Church in Winchester. He was a very proud father and grandfather.

Along with his wife he is survived by his son James Oates Jr. of Upper Marlboro, MD; daughter, Kimberly Genovese (Anthony) of Ellicott City, Md; grandchildren, AJ, Kelsey and Katie Genovese; brothers, Daniel Oates, Donald Oates and Ronald Oates.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 23, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at Jones Funeral Home in Winchester. A visitation will be one hour prior from 1:00 -2:00 p.m.
